Sujata Venkateswar, Executive Director
Sujata moved to the U.S. from India in 1990. She has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from UTSA. She is a licensed CPA and a valuation analyst. In addition to both public and private accounting she has extensive experience in education having taught accounting at the Our Lady of the Lake University for over eight years.
An active member of the San Antonio Indian Community, she is a well-known Indian classical music vocalist and teacher. She conceived and initiated a monthly program at the Hindu Temple of San Antonio called Raaga Archana that promotes local as well as out of area Indian musicians. Sujata has extensive experience in producing and managing large Indian music and dance shows. Among others she produced and performed in “Bollywood Extravaganza” for Luminaria 2012 – a vibrant and colorful presentation of Bollywood songs from the 1950s – 2000s involving over 30 performers. She is the Treasurer on the board of Musical Bridges Around the World. In addition to being the Executive Director on the Board of Directors for Northside World Music School, and is spearheading “Tarang Expressions,” a wing of the school that promotes Indian performing arts to the mainstream through collaborations. She is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Kavita and Madhuri Venkateswar.
Katchie Cartwright, Vice President
Katchie Cartwright, PhD, combines an extensive background in musical performance as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with teaching and ethnomusicology, specializing in improvisational traditions of the world. As a Fulbright Senior Specialist for the U.S. Department of State, she has assisted schools in Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa. Dr. Cartwright also served on the board of directors of the Hague-based International Association of Schools of Jazz, and as longtime chair of the Sisters in Jazz mentorship program for the International Association for Jazz Education. She earned her doctorate in music from The Graduate School of the City University of New York, an MA in Music from Queens College, and a BS in Music Performance from The City University of New York. She is a Professor of Music at Northwest Vista College, a post she has held since 2006. Her discography includes a variety of albums under her own name and as a side musician. She performs regularly in San Antonio as a freelance flutist and with her world-jazz ensembles, Le Monde Caché and the Cartwright/Oppenheim Quintet.
